'Sonic the Hedgehog,' the popular Sega video game protagonist, is going to be making the leap (perhaps with the help of the A button) to the big screen as Sony and Original Film are teaming with Sega to turn the character into a franchise mainstay, with films due out every year.

'Forrest Gump,' which turns 20 this year, is about to be rolled back into theaters to celebrate. Paramount has announced that the film will screen in IMAX auditoriums starting September 5, and have also moved up 'SpongeBob SquarePants 2' from February 13 to February 6, 2015.

The later part of this summer has already seen a lot of titles move and shift from one week to the next, but now The Wachowski's 'Jupiter Ascending' has bowed out of the summer box office battlefield altogether. The film, which stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis, is now set to open February 6, 2015.

With the recent cancellation of 'Community,' there was hope that Netflix might swoop in and grant the show a sixth season, fulfilling a long running joke about the series. It turns out that it might be Hulu that picks up the show for an additional year at Greendale.

'Pitch Perfect 2' has added some fresh blood to its cast of returning players by recruiting 'True Grit' star Hailee Steinfeld into its a capella choir. And word is that she's being primed to take over the franchise if it becomes a series.

With so many comedy hits of the past getting supposed follow ups ('Ghostbusters 3,' the 'Twins' sequel 'Triplets') it's no surprise that 'Mrs. Doubtfire 2' is being prepped, with both star Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus set to return for more cross-dressing hijinks.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are one of the greatest comic duos in cinema, so it's exciting to know they're re-teaming to make 'Border Guards.' Currently Adam McKay is eyeing directing, so it could be the trio's third movie together, following 'Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby' and 'Step Brothers.'

'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' is opening internationally weeks before it hits the American market, which means that today offered the first tweets and reviews of the movie. And with a number of reports in it's fair to say the film, which stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, and Dane DeHaan, is not being greeted with the same enthusiasm that 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' was, that's

Though we're still a couple weeks away from the release of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,' Sony is really excited about their 'Spider-Man' brand plans, as they've all but confirmed that 'The Cabin in the Woods' helmer Drew Goddard will be directing 'The Sinister Six,' which Goddard is also currently writing.

Universal is now working on a third version of 'Battlestar Galactica,' this time for the big screen, and have hired 'Transcendence' screenwriter Jack Paglen to write it. As when Ron Moore did it, it's likely that it will take the basic outline and go its own way with it (though there will surely be Cylons and a character named Starbuck).
