Ariana Grande Breaks Social Media Silence on Mac Miller’s Death
Ariana Grande has taken to social media to honor Mac Miller, who died Friday (Sept. 7) of an apparent overdose.
Though the 25-year-old singer has yet to comment directly, she did share a black and white photo of the rapper, who she dated for nearly two years before splitting with him in May. In the photo, Miller can be seen sitting on the grass as he stares up and into the camera.
The tribute comes after Instagram users flocked to Grande's Instagram to blame her for Miller's death, forcing her to disable her comments. She previously addressed their breakup on Twitter after users similarly tried to blame her for Miller's DUI in May, writing they'd had a "toxic" relationship and that while she had "tried to support his sobriety" and "prayed for his balance for years," she was "not a babysitter" and that "no woman should feel that they need to be."
Miller, for his part, has been open about his struggle with substance abuse. Details surrounding his cause of death are still unclear, though his family confirmed the news via a statement provided to E!.
"Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26," it read. "He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time."
