The average height of a man in the United States is 5 foot 9 inches tall. The tallest man in the United States, Igor Vovkovinsky, was 7 feet 8 inches tall.

Sadly Rochester, Minnesota resident Igor Vovkovinskiy passed away over the weekend from heart disease. He was just 38 years old.

Vovkovinsky was formally from Ukraine but moved to Rochester at age 7 for treatment of a tumor. The tumor in his pituitary gland was responsible for his above-normal height.

Vovkovinsky was a law student who acted in commercials and films. He was in the 2011 comedy movie 'Hall Pass'.

The tallest man in recorded history was Robert Pershing Wadlow of Alton Illinois. Wadlow was 8 feet 11 inches tall. Wadlow was born in 1918 and died in 1940. He weighed 439 pounds at the time of his death at 22 years old.

By age 8 Wadlow was taller than his father. In 1936 he gained national fame while touring with the Ringling Brothers Circus.

Wadlow's coffin measured 10 ft 9 inches long by 2 ft 8 inches wide by 2 ft 6 inches deep, weighed over 1,000 lb, and was carried by twelve pallbearers and eight assistants.
