An ‘Adventure Time’ Movie Is in the Works, So Come On and Grab Your Friends
A ton of games and toys and classic properties have made the transition to the big screen, but here’s one you might actually be stoked about with little-to-zero persuasion: Warner Bros. is currently developing an Adventure Time movie, based on the wildly inventive hit series from Cartoon Network. Mathematical!
Deadline reports this most excellent news, adding that original Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward will be heavily involved with writing and producing the project—also great news. Last year, Ward revealed that he had stepped down as showrunner on the series sometime during the fifth season, though he’s remained on as a writer and storyboard artist.
As an added bonus, Chris McKay and Roy Lee, producers on the LEGO movies, will also produce the Adventure Time film, putting this big screen adaptation in mighty good hands.
The Adventure Time series centers on a heroic young boy named Finn and his talking dog, Jake, who battle bad guys and fight to protect the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Finn and Jake often butt heads with the evil Ice King (Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob) and other nefarious characters, like Flame King (Keith David) and Evil Guy (Mark Hamill). The duo also have plenty of friends in the Land of Ooo, including Marceline the Vampire Queen, Lumpy Space Princess and Princess Bubblegum.
The Adventure Time movie hasn’t secured a director yet, but given the immense popularity of the property and the very talented people involved, WB shouldn’t have a problem finding a great director who’s eager to take on the project.
