The 2015 Sioux Falls School Board Election is April 14, 2015 and voter turnout will likely be high due to the issue of back to school start dates.

Some say an early start date can disrupt the last long weekend of the summer, while the other school of thought embraces an earlier start to allow for testing before the brain drain of Christmas break.

Brian Schumacher is a dad of young kids in school.

"I do think that the turnout is going to be huge this year, just for people to get what they need for their kids," said Schumacher. "To me more summer is good for these kids at this point at a later start date, but I know there's some people with some older kids. It really impacts them very differently than it does to me."

This time you won't have to find the precinct where you voted at last year, there are 13 different voting centers to choose from, with the Instructional Planning Center being one of them.

Schumacher describes why voting is important to him

"They're our kids. This is our future. We all love our kids and we should care about other people's kids too because this is the future of Sioux Falls.”

Our news-gathering partner KDLT News reports voter turnout has only been between four and fifteen percent but many expect a higher turnout this time.

The deadline to register to vote has passed.  Absentee voting is available now.
