What do Pokémon, Post Malone, and Hootie, and the Blowfish have in common?

I'm perusing the Twitter tweets today and what do I stumble upon, but a post about Post Malone covering Hootie and the Blowfish. As if that wasn't a weird enough combination, it's all for his performance at the Pokémon Day celebration. Um...what?

So, the first thing is first. I'm not the biggest Post Malone fan, but Hootie and the Blowfish were huge in the '90s and my mom loved them and they have a special place in my heart. All I could think was if Post ruins this for me, I'm going to be upset.

He covered their iconic hit, "Only Wanna Be With You."

However, I was pleasantly surprised. He changed it enough to make it his own but didn't change it so much that I can't recognize it.

Then, the internet is such a weird place that I actually see a tweet from Darius Rucker, Hootie himself, saying that he approves!

Ok, so the other thing to digest in this news, what is this Pokémon Day celebration?

Well, according to Rollingstone, the virtual celebration is this Saturday, February 27. Also, Post Malone's cover is, "Officially dubbed the 'Pokémon 25 Version' of the song, Post Malone’s rendition trades the rootsy production of the original track for lush, echoing guitar and plenty of synthesizer sound effects that are reminiscent of the original Pokémon video game. The song will be included in the setlist for Post Malone’s appearance at the Pokémon anniversary concert, streaming at 7:00 p.m. EST / 4:00 p.m. PST on February 27th. The event can be viewed for free on the official Pokémon YouTube and Twitch channels, and on Pokémon’s 25th-anniversary website."

Now you know!

P.S. My favorite part is switching the lyric from the Dolphins to the Cowboys. I feel your pain Post.
