My Turn: Live or Recorded? It Doesn’t Matter

We've had a couple of days to ruminate on the question of whether Beyonce Knowles sang the National Anthem for President Obama's inauguration ceremony on Monday, or whether she was doing a lip-sync version..

First we were hearing that she had recorded it earlier, then those who had put out that story were backing away.

But I'm here to tell you that I don't think it matters.

I understand the whole thing about having a backup version in case the weather was too cold.

And I really wonder how Yo-Yo Ma could "hand-sync" his performance at the 2009 ceremony, but he apparently did--he says it was too cold for instruments to work properly.

I was working and didn't hear it on Monday, but by all accounts Beyonce did a bang-up version, regardless of which one anybody heard..

And wasn't that the idea in the first place?
