Parents are always looking for something different for their children to do while on summer break. If your child isn't interested in attending another basketball camp or football camp, encourage your kids to go outside and dig in the dirt with the South Dakota State Historical Society.

Registrations are being taken for the South Dakota State Historical Society's Archaeology Camp for Tuesday, June 7 through Thursday, June 9, 2016. The archaeology camp is open to students going into fourth, fifth or sixth grades in the 2016-2017 school year.

Campers will experience an active, outdoor experience located on an archaeological site near the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area. Students will get an introduction to archaeology, how to map a site, how to process artifacts, team building skills and take tours of the Oahe Dam, the Turtle Effigy and the Oahe Chapel.

The cost of the archaeology camp is $30 and registration is limited to the first 20 applicants. Registration will close on Friday, May 13 or when the camp is full.

Interested parents can email Paige Olson or call 605-773-6004 for more information. More details can also be found at the South Dakota State Historical Society.
