While many people ponder the potential of a Black Widow spinoff at Marvel, few have wondered when we're getting a 'Hawkeye' movie. That's not to say that we don't love Jeremy Renner's sharpshooter, it's just that he hasn't gotten much to do in the Marvel universe so far. That may change as Renner says there are "rumblings" of a major role for Hawkeye in 'Captain America 3'.

Renner sat down with Collider and, while talking about his upcoming projects, dropped this little tidbit:

There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.

We could certainly see a 'Captain America 3' where, instead of Black Widow as a sidekick, Steve Rogers recruits his old pal Clint Barton. That is assuming Hawkeye even survives 'Avengers 2'...

Now, we have no specific intel about the future of Hawkeye vis-a-vis 'Avengers 2' but if one were to ask Las Vegas bookmakers to put odds on which character might not survive the Age of Ultron, ole Eagle Eye would be right up at the top. He doesn't have his own franchise, he's largely disposable in terms of his skill set and even Renner has admitted to being unhappy with the character. If Marvel, Joss Whedon and Renner haven't figured out what they want to do with Hawkeye, maybe it's easier to just write him off.

Or...one of the other options on the table is certainly 'Captain America 3'. Cap tends to work better when he has a buddy from the modern world. You would've thought that Falcon would be that guy, but maybe there's a mini-Avengers going on in 'Captain America 3' with Cap, Falcon, Hawkeye and Bucky. Maybe they all move to California to start the West Coast Avengers.

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier,' are currently working on the script for 'Captain America 3' and are expected to begin filming on that sequel some time in late 2015.
