The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an American holiday tradition for nearly a century. Bands from South Dakota have been a part of the parade several times.

Since 1924 floats, balloons, and marching bands have walked through the heart of Manhatten in New Your City. While the parade does draw a crown in the millions, most of us experience the parade on TV while preparing dinner.

Most of us that is, except for a select few members of some South Dakota marching bands. Schools from South Dakota have marched in the Macy's Parade six times since 1986. The Lincoln High marching band will make it seven times in 2024.

When the Patriot Marching Band travels to NYC in 2024 it will be their fourth time in the parade. Two other South Dakota high schools, and one college, have sent band to the big turkey-day show.
