Who’s the Minnesota Vikings Worst First Round Pick of All Time?
Who is the Minnesota Vikings worst first round pick of all time?
The question of course is very loaded in many ways and of course it also will include ones opinion, leaving the question itself to spark more debate than potential answers, but I'll take a shot.
Over the years, we all know that individual draft pick success can be correlated to success of the team and the members of the front office.
The lack of success for a first round pick can stunt the growth of the team and can potentially get a GM or coach fired.
Looking back at the history of the Minnesota Vikings, I believe that the worst first round selection in team history has to be Troy Williamson back in 2005.
I could of gone with Dimitrius Underwood who was selected with the 29th pick of the 1999 draft and walked out of training camp on day one and never returned to the team. Since he never played a down for the Vikings, I decided to go with a dud who actually played some.
That dud has to be Williamson.
After the Vikings selected Troy Williamson with the 7th pick in the 2005 draft, he went on to be more disappointing than Anchorman 2.
His 4.32 40 yard dash time at the combine blew away the Vikings enough to waste a first round pick as that speed never materialized to anything of significance in the NFL.
His three years in Minnesota were full of disappointment and lack of major production. He ended his three year stint with 79 receptions, 1,064 receiving yards and just a measly three touchdowns.
Even though Troy Williamson didn't have many accolades as a player, we are generous enough to give him the honor as the worst first round pick in Minnesota Vikings history.
