The young girl who inspired Taylor Swift and another 10,000 kind-hearted souls to grant her final wishes has passed away. Delaney "Laney" Ann Brown, who suffered from a rare form of leukemia, died early Christmas morning at her home in West Reading, Pa. She was 8 years old.

"Our little angel on earth earned her pink glittery angel wings in heaven," a post on the family's Facebook page said. "She took her last breath at home in her bed at 3:10 surrounded by all her family and friends. I miss her so much already."

A huge fan of Taylor's, Laney celebrated her birthday last Friday (Dec. 20) with a special FaceTime chat with the singer. "[Swift] really engaged Laney in conversation," Laney's mom later wrote on Facebook. "Laney lit up and had a huge smile on her face."

The following evening, another of her last wishes was granted by people who gathered outside her home, where she had been confined to bed, to sing Christmas carols to her. The crowd, which started at dozens, soon grew to an awe-inspiring 10,000. A photo posted of a bed-ridden Laney holding both thumbs up was captioned, "I can hear you now!!! Love you!"
