Gitchie Manitou

The Gitchie Manitou State Preserve has quite the history.

It has been 45 years since this horrendous event occurred in our area. I was honored to meet the inspiring lone survivor.

Staying true to their passion of Sioux Falls area crimes, Gitchie Girl authors Phil and Sandy Hamman have penned the book, Rap Sheet: Inside the Life of a Career Criminal.

I’d never been to Gitchie Manitou. That changed on Saturday (Dec. 16). I was born and raised in Sioux Falls and lived here nearly my entire life, yet had never visited the small Iowa State Preserve, just across the Big Sioux River. It’s so close that, if the powers that be ever decide to drop a bridge over the river at 57th Street, it would run right into the site.
