An inmate charged with first degree murder charges told investigators that voices told him to attack a staff member at the South Dakota State Penitentiary.

Kevin Tripp, 25,  was charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of aggravated assault on October 26.  Both charges carry a sentence of up to 25 years in the state penitentiary and/or $50,000 fine.

According to KDLT News, Tripp allegedly grabbed the teacher’s arm at the learning center, putting his arm around her neck and forced her to the floor.  Pepper spray was used to subdue Tripp.

Tripp also allegedly told investigator he did not care if the worker died.
