A relentless Sioux Falls Skyforce attack proved fruitful in their 111-101 victory over the visiting Westchester Knicks Tuesday night at the Sanford Pentagon.

All night long Sioux Falls (22-11) aggressively used dribble penetration off the pick and roll. The result led to a lot of opportunities to make shots within five feet or get to the free throw line.

Westchester (13-18) forced quite a few turnovers in the first half and took advantage of the early breaks. Eventually the Skyforce seized the lead late in the second quarter and maintained through the balance of the contest.

Coach Nevada Smith offered praise for his team’s ability to penetrate which led to success inside and outside the paint.

“I thought our energy level was high. We did a nice job offensively by just attacking. It opened up some shots around the perimeter. We didn’t make a lot of shots, but we created the shots we wanted. I was very happy with how we played.”

Skyforce Guard Ike Nwamu gave the coaches their due in preparing the squad for the challenge.

“The coaches did a great job with (scouting). We felt pretty prepared. We knew a lot of the stuff that was coming at us. It was just a matter of if we had the effort. We brought it for most of the game.”

The ‘Force were led by Patrick Miller who matched a career high with 32 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Next was Bubu Palo with 20 counters and Keith Benson who leads the league with 20 double-doubles contributed 17 points and 16 boards.

In his Westchester debut, John Jenkins scored 24 points and Damien Inglis ended with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Next up for Sioux Falls will be a home contest with Rio Grande Valley on Friday. On that same day, Westchester will return home to meet the Maine Red Claws.
