The days of showing up for your flight at the last minute are so behind us. All due to security measures implement since 2001. And there are more security procedures coming.

According to KSFY TV the Sioux Falls Regional Airport will be ramping up security again. So don't be that person who thinks they can breeze through check-in and screening at the last minute.

KSFY reports it will take a few minutes longer due to tighter screening procedures.

The Transportation Security Administration officials outlined stronger carry-on baggage security procedures for travelers departing from the Sioux Falls airport and beginning nationwide by late spring of 2018. Officials tested the new screening procedures at 10 airports across the country over the past several months.

Travelers will continue to remove their one-quart bag containing liquids, gels and aerosols in quantities of less than 3.4 ounces from their carry-on bag. However, the new procedures now require the bag to be placed in a bin by itself for x-ray screening.

There are no changes to what travelers can bring through the checkpoint.

Tips to make your screening process go smoothly:

  • Organize the carry-on bag so electronics larger than a cell phone can be quickly and easily accessed when at the security checkpoint
  • Ensure the quart-size bag of liquids, gels and aerosols can also be accessed quickly and easily
  • Don’t overstuff the carry-on bag. An uncluttered bag makes the screening process easier and quicker for passengers and TSA officers. Consider checking bags when feasible.
