During Wednesday's Police Media Briefing, Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says there are still residents that don't lock their car doors---day or night.

"That happens all times of the year. It doesn't matter if its summer or winter. People seem to think it's all right if they leave their cars unlocked thinking everything will stay where it is. There are people that check cars. They walk around and find vehicles that are unlocked. They will help themselves to whatever is inside and on to the next one."

Clemens urges drivers to cover items that are in their vehicles.

"People are passing cars and are looking inside to see if there are anything of value. If you have a trunk, put items of value in there. If you don't have a trunk, or don't want to put items in there---try to cover the items up as best you can."

Clemens says residents also should lock their garage boors. It's one of the best ways to prevent being ripped off.
