Pete Davidson Gets Serious About Ariana Grande Split on ‘SNL': ‘Sometimes Things Don’t Work Out’
Pete Davidson took time during his Saturday Night Live Weekend Update segment (November 3) to deliver the news update we've all been waiting for.
After cracking a joke about moving back in with his mom, Davidson launched into a bit about the importance of voting in the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 6. At the end of his segment, however, his face turned serious as he looked straight at the camera and issued a statement addressing his and Ariana Grande's highly-publicized October split.
"I know some of you are curious about the breakup. But the truth is, it's nobody's business and sometimes things don't work out and that's okay. She's a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world," he shared.
Watch, below:
Davidson's statement comes just days after the comedian was met with backlash for joking about his and the pop star's split during a promo for SNL.
In the promo, Davidson jokingly asked musical guest Maggie Rogers to marry him. When she declined, the actor shrugged and quipped, "Zero for three," a reference to his failed relationships, including his short-lived engagement to Grande.
Retweeting the clip on Twitter, Grande seemed to slam her ex for the dig, tweeting, "for somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh."
Last night, minutes before NBC's airing of SNL, the Sweetener singer surprise released "thank u, next," an empowering R&B song that references her breakup with Davidson by name.
Davidson and Grande were engaged for less than six months.
