Matt Kenseth Wins Dover
The race at Dover International Speedway on Sunday was very chaotic to describe it best. Only 14 cars finished on the lead lap of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race on the mile track in Delaware.
In the end, Matt Kenseth, in the number 20 Toyota, drove to victory. This was a turnaround for what’s been a bad season for Kenseth.
He only had scored one time in the top five so far coming into Sunday’s race. That was the prior weekend when he finished fourth at Kansas.
This marks another win though for the team of Joe Gibbs Racing. His drivers have taken the Toyota’s to seven victories in 12 races so far in 2016.
Sunday’s race was a huge battle between Kenseth and Kyle Larson at the end. Larson was pushing hard alongside trying to achieve his first Sprint Cup win and ended up in second in the Chip Ganassi Racing number 42 Chevrolet.
Rookie Chase Elliott came within striking distance of the top two. He finished the best ever in his career at third place.
Kasey Kahne finished in fourth in the number 5 Chevrolet. Kahne’s car failed the post-race laser inspection station and will be taken to the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina, for further evaluation. If penalties are warranted, they will be announced later in the week.
Kurt Busch completed the top five in a topsy-turvy day. Take a look at where your driver finished.
A massive 18 car crash on lap 354 brought out a huge red flag for a stoppage of 11 minutes and 22 seconds. It thinned out the field of contenders.
