Attorney General Marty Jackley has a duty to defend the will of the voters when it comes to Initiated Measure 22 which puts him at odds with the Governor and Republican legislators.

As of now the entirety of IM 22 is on hold pending a judicial review based on the law’s constitutionality. Jackley is convinced that an ethics panel would be a benefit for the Attorney General’s office.

When you consider investigations into the EB-5 and Gear Up programs, Jackley can vouch for needing a group that would hold people accountable.

Because of her work with elections and County Auditors, Jackley feels Secretary of State Shantel Krebs would also see advantages in a South Dakota ethics commission.

Above all, Jackley would be in favor of the two sides working together on IM 22 as opposed to the current standoff.
