For the second time in six days the Sioux Falls Skyforce went to double overtime. The Salt Lake City Stars found a way in the tussle to gain the 110-109 win Friday night.

In the middle of the third quarter, Sioux Falls (14-5) seemed to be well on their way toward a victory. Leading by 24 points against a team that had only won 3 of their first 16 battles did not make the final 18 minutes a formality.

Salt Lake City (4-13) roared to life and the visitors went cold and the result was a 43-19 turnaround that sent the game to overtime and then double overtime. A Keith Benson basket in the lane with 3.7 seconds left gave Sioux Falls a two-point lead that was overcome by a three from Marcus Paige to seize the lead back with fractions of a second remaining. Ike Nwamu’s look from long range at the buzzer missed the mark for the final result.

Benson was a constant presence for the ‘Force with 33 points, 17 rebounds with 5 blocked shots. Okaro White contributed mightily with 29 points and 9 boards and Nwamu finished with 20 tallies.

The Stars maximized the services of Utah Jazz prospect Joel Bolomboy with his 18 points and 12 rebounds. Jermaine Taylor poured in 18 counters including a long range missile that sent the game to overtime.

Tuesday will mark the first contest of the New Year for the Stars as their home stand continues against the Oklahoma City Blue. Sioux Falls will wait until Friday for a home contest against the Texas Legends.
