It's the end of a long relationship between two Iowa based companies.

Earlier this week, Hy-Vee grocery store officials announced that they would no longer be selling Tone's Spices going into 2025.

They will be switching out this Iowa based product for products from McCormick & Co.

Why Are They Making The Switch?

In a report from the Des Moines Register, a Hy-Vee spokesperson claimed it all boiled down to supply chain issues.

"...after multiple attempts to work with Tone's, they were unable to adequately supply our stores with spices and they could not assure us that we would have supply over the critical holiday shopping season," Hy-Vee representative Tina Potthoff explained.

What is Tone's?

Tone's was initially founded back in 1873 in Des Moines by brothers Isaac and Jehiel, according to the company website.

In 1969 the company was sold off to an Iowa soft drink bottler, according to reports. It's switched hands several times since then.

Currently, the Tone's company has a factory in Ankeny, which employs approximately 440 people.

The company that owns Tone's is B&G Foods, Inc.

Officials from Hy-Vee confirmed that they would continue to do business with B&G Foods, and that they are still buying more than 200 of their products.

Where Can I Get Tone's Now?

For the time being, you'll still be able to snag some of their spice bottles at your local Hy-Vee. There are leftover products that they are still selling at some Hy-Vee grocery store locations across the state.

Once these bottles are gone, they are gone from the Iowa based grocer for good.

Tone's will still be available to purchase at Fareway, Walmart, and Sam's Club, according to the spice company's official website.
