If it seems to you like the cost of just about everything is higher these days, you're not imagining things. Inflation has caused prices to increase, and we now know just how much more we're paying for food here in Minnesota.

While it's been five years now since the pandemic changed all of our lives here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and across the country, there are parts of our daily life that have returned and are similar to the way things were before things changed in 2020.

Not everything, of course. But while many of us have returned to the office at least some of the time, and we no longer have to wear a mask while out in public, high prices at the grocery store are something the pandemic brought us that haven't gone away here in the North Star State and across the U.S.

From the cost of coffee to milk, and bacon to butter and ground beef, Axios says food prices shot up during the pandemic and haven't really come back down. And of course, we're all familiar with the high cost of eggs these days, right? (Although that has more to do with the bird flu than the pandemic.)

The Economic Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) did some checking and came up with just *how* much more we've all been paying at the grocery store here in the Bold North-- and it's not pretty. Check it out:

U.S. food prices rose by a whopping 23.6 percent from 2020 to 2024, the USDA Economic Research Service said in a new report, noting that in 2022, food prices increased faster than any year since 1979.

That nearly 24 percent increase was even greater than the overall inflation rate of 21.2 percent during that same four-year period, the report said. Meanwhile, Axios reported that the cost of specific grocery items confirms that increase, as well. For instance:
