What Happened To This Signature Texas Roadhouse Item?
Relax! I'm NOT about to tell you that Texas Roadhouse has ditched their signature rolls and cinnamon butter. But for fans of the restaurant chain, they may have noticed one 'signature' item is no longer being offered automatically, rather you have to ask for it. I'm talking about the bucket of in-shell peanuts you used to get.
Texas Roadhouse, founded in 1993, has had some 'gimmicks' in the past that customers really appreciated. Remember picking your steak out? Luckily the fresh rolls and cinnamon butter have stuck around, but the time-honored tradition of in-shell peanuts coming to you in a bucket at the table is no more.
The restaurant chain has discontinued giving out the nuts to diners, instead offering a bag of in-shell nuts for customers when they ask for them. Gone too seems to be the 'tradition' of dumping the shells on the floor.
I recently spoke to a former member of the Waite Park Texas Roadhouse staff and they let me know the peanut buckets were halted with the pandemic, and with that ended the somewhat gross tradition of dumping your shells on the ground.
Think about it for a second, hundreds of peanut shells, on the ground, where plenty of people walk. Tripping and falling were common, as people would step on a shell, and lose their balance.
Another reason we don't see the buckets of peanuts is that allergies to peanuts have seemed to grow, and with the rise in the allergy comes the risk of severe allergic reaction, and possibly death.
So while the buckets of peanuts and their shells being everywhere are not gone, you can still ask for a bag of peanuts AND get your rolls and cinnamon butter.
