Here's a statistic South Dakota is gonna wish it wasn't tethered to, we rank second in the in the nation for worst impaired driving.

Here's something else you may not know, Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days of the year when it comes to people driving drunk on our nation's streets and highways. Big Game Sunday ranks right up there with New Years Eve, and St. Patty's Day when it comes to getting tipsy.

It makes sense when you stop and think about all the different Super Bowl parties people will be attending. Most of these celebrations have two things in common, people eating lots of food, and consuming way too many libations.

To help combat drunk driving on Big Game Weekend, the NFL has teamed up with Moms Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Uber, and Diageo to form a campaign called "Take a Minute. Make a Plan.”

The objective of this partnership is to remind people of the importance of never driving impaired.

According to Dakota News Now, “Everyday impaired driving takes the lives of 37 people statistically, but according to NTSB, 45% of all the crashes that happened on Super Bowl Sunday in 2022 involved alcohol.”

The “Take a Minute. Make a Plan” campaign is aiming to change the culture of drunk driving altogether by simply encouraging people to plan ahead.

Kristin Smith, the Head of Global Road Safety Policy at Uber says, “Riders overwhelmingly more than 80% of us tell us that they use Uber as an alternative to drinking and driving, and independent research backs this up as well showing us that Uber saves more than 600 lives a year in the U.S. alone just from reducing drunk driving.”

Using ride share services like Uber, or taking the time to establish a designated driver at parties where alchol is being served is the smart and responsible thing to do to help protect your life, and the lives of others.

Remember, as the folks with the "Take a Minute. Make a Plan" campaign say, it only takes a minute, even less in some cases to put together a solid plan to prevent drunk driving.
