Dakota News Now is reporting that Sioux Falls Parks and Rec maintenance crews have begun the huge job of transforming Falls Park into a Sioux Falls traditional holiday spectacular. Just like any major holiday undertaking, the planning begins long before the physical changes are put into place.
Josh Johnson, the Parks Operations Manager, says that typically, they start planning the Winter Wonderland display in June and July. Then, in early October, the work of creating and getting things put together begins.
This year, there will be 25 miles of Christmas lights, 300,000 bulbs, and over 268 decorated trees! Johnson says that everything is reused from year to year. "Some are new, some are retired, just as bulbs fade or lights just become damaged or worn." They pay special attention to the cords that run through the grass.
