Plugged In: Sioux Falls Prepares for ‘Falls Park Winter Wonderland’
Twas just days before Winter Wonderland begins in Falls Park, city crews can be seen stirring, hanging twinkling holiday lights in trees, buildings, and on lamp posts with care, in hopes that soon, Winter Wonderland light lovers would soon be there.
Sorry, I know it's a far cry from the classic "Night Before Christmas" but, hopefully, you get the idea.
It's almost time again to start walking in a Winter Wonderland at Falls Park in downtown Sioux Falls.
The downtown Sioux Falls holiday tradition kicks off for another season on Friday, (November 22) with a fireworks display starting at 6:00 PM.
Dakota News Now reports that on Wednesday (October 30), city crews began preparing the park for the 21st season of Winter Wonderland.
Over the years, the display has grown from just a few strands of lights to over 30 miles of twinkling lights, music, and holiday decorations. Winter Wonderland has become something even Clark W Griswold would be envious of.
Set up for this spectacular holiday event typically takes between 5 and 6 weeks.
Sioux Falls Park Operations Manager Josh Johnson told Dakota News Now, “Our team gets a tremendous amount of credit for the work that goes on at Winter Wonderland. The setup takes anywhere from five to six weeks. Somedays, you get beautiful days like we’ve had in the past 4 weeks or so, and then now as the weather begins to turn, it gets to be a little more rugged."
The 2024 version of Winter Wonderland will be open to the public every night until midnight through Sunday, (January 5).
