Popular Sioux Falls Canaries Usher Passes Away
The Sioux Falls Canaries lost a beloved member of their staff over the weekend.
Clarence "Michael" McGee passed away on Saturday, (July 27) after he suffered a medical episode while working a sporting event that day.
Dakota News Now reports that McGee is best known for being the friendly usher at Canaries games since 2017, a true fan favorite. Kind to everyone he met, McGee had a reputation for his positive energy, and ability to brighten the field, making the crowd smile with his larger-than-life personality. Over the years he had become an iconic like figure at Canaries games.
According to Dakota News Now, McGee grew up in Chicago and was a huge Cubs fan. He also had numerous stories to tell of all the legendary pop icons he had the privilege of seeing throughout the 70s and 80s.
McGee was so much more than just an usher at Canaries sporting events, as Dakota News Now reports, his first calling in life was to serve as an overdose response coordinator, working in treatment centers to help others overcome addiction. His primary job was working as an agronomist.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help his family with expenses and to illustrate just how much McGee meant to the Sioux Falls community, his GoFundMe account had already surpassed $9,000 on its first day.
