Young and Old alike are finding themselves in trouble for not just breaking Iowa's speeding laws but leaving them in the dust!

Over the last few years, it appears that number of people being busted for going at excessive speeds is at an all-time high in Iowa.

According to KCCI in Des Moines, the number of Iowa drivers caught speeding about 100 mph has skyrocketed.

KCCI quotes Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Alex Dinkla, "It is everyday drivers and just random people that are choosing to drive this deliberately as a disregard for the safety of others."

A record number of Iowans are getting caught driving over 100 miles per hour.

In 2018: 730
In 2019: 659
In 2020: 1,497
In 2021: 1205
In 2022: 1,112

Some of the excuses for speeding include:

  • “I need to use the bathroom.”
  • “I just bought this car, I wanted to go out and see how fast it would go.”
  • “I'm late for a homecoming dance.”

Speeding might well be in Iowan's DNA. Last summer an Iowa man was busted across the Minnesota border driving 92 miles per hour over the speed limit.

23-year-old Anthony Neve of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was clocked just north of Rochester, Minnesota at 157 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone.

When trying to explain why he was going so darn fast the 23-year-old man said he was in a hurry to get home and “didn’t know he was going that fast.”
