Leaf and Branch Dropoff Sites Gearing Up to Close for the Season
As if the cold temps and first snowflakes weren't enough of a hint about the coming winter season, your yardwork days are just about over.
I watched my lawn-mowing guy toiling out in 20-degree weather yesterday and he told me that would be the last yard cleanup of the season, so I was just grateful he could fit it in.
Now the news from the city is that the Sioux Falls leaf and branch drop-off sites are closing for the season on Sunday, December 1 at 5 PM.
Until then- -the two sites are located at North Lyon Boulevard, near the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds, and Chambers Street, near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Both sites are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The sites are free for residents to use.
The sites are intended for residential use only, and cars, pickups, full-size SUVs, vans, and two-wheel trailers are accepted. Lawn service companies, commercial businesses, and double-axel trailers will not be accepted and must go directly to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill.
Branches and leaves must be placed in separate piles, and leaves must be removed from plastic bags. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. Plastic bags, stumps, rubble, and household garbage are not accepted.
Discarded branches are ground and repurposed, while leaves are composted. Residents can pick up compost for free year-round at the landfill and at the seasonal drop-off sites while they are open. Compost is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and residents must collect and carry their own compost.
