So you think you sack a mean bag of groceries, huh?

Well, you better get ready to straighten your apron, hold on to your reusable tote, and strategically find a way to slide soap away from sandwich meat.

The 5th Annual Best Grocery Bagger competition is coming back, Saturday, August 30, on the Freedom Stage at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron.

While other fairs may spotlight pie-eating contests or cow-milking races, here in South Dakota, we have opted to showcase Grocery Gladiators Gearin up for Glory!

Dakota News Now reports that the South Dakota Retailers Association is once again partnering with the State Fair to feature some of the fastest, fiercest, and most frighteningly efficient grocery baggers this state has to offer.

State Fair manager Peggy Besch told Dakota News Now, “The South Dakota State Fair is where South Dakotans let their talents shine, and that includes bagging groceries! We are proud to host the fastest baggers at the fair.”

It's bound to be an "egg-cellent" competition!

If you think you've got what it takes to bag with the best of 'em, and you want to show off your sack stuffing skills, you'll need to be of legal working age and spend at least 40 percent of your work time bagging groceries. Here's another stipulation: there can only be one contestant per retail location participating.

What's on the line?

Cold-hard lettuce, baby, and I don't mean romaine.

The grand prize winner of this contest will bag $500 cash and an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the National Grocers Association’s National Bagging Competition in Las Vegas, where the top bag boy or girl will receive bagging rights and a chance to compete to win 10 Grand!
