That's right, starting on Friday, (June 6) through (August 29), Sioux Falls residents can ride the Sioux Area Metro transit bus system for free throughout the summer months on Fridays. It's all part of the SAM "Summer Fridays" initiative.

What inspired VIA and Sioux Area Metro to do this?

According to Dakota News Now, Sioux Area Metro and its parent company, VIA, are attempting to improve accessibility and help residents access essential and leisure activities without concerns about parking, traffic, or gas costs.

This promotion comes on the heels of other enhancements that SAM has rolled out recently like extended service hours, city-wide on-demand options, a redesigned airport route, and an improved live bus tracking app that allows for easier trip planning.

Director of Operations for Via Emily Shapiro, told Dakota News Now, “Whether you’re headed to Falls Park, grabbing lunch downtown, or just avoiding traffic and the summer construction, Summer Fridays are a great way for community members to try the bus, and ideally make it part of their regular lifestyle routine in Sioux Falls.”
