There’s a good chance many of us have lightly worn winter gear like jackets, hats, gloves, or scarves, tucked away in a closet or drawer, collecting dust.

Why not put those items to good use?

Dakota News Now is once again teaming up with the Salvation Army for the “Coats For All” winter coat drive, an effort to provide warm clothing to those in need throughout the Sioux Empire as we head into another long, cold South Dakota winter.

While many of us take for granted that we’ll have what we need to stay warm, that’s not the reality for everyone. Right here in our community, countless individuals and families are facing the harsh winter months without adequate cold-weather gear.

How can you help?

It’s simple: Check your closets for gently used winter clothing. They are looking for things like coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and snow pants. Then simply donate what you no longer need.

As Deanna Parker from the Salvation Army told Dakota News Now, “This is such an easy way to help out and give back during the season without overcommitting yourself. It benefits you, too; you get to clean out your closet and support people in need. It’s a simple act that makes a big difference.”

Every size, every style, and every donation counts.

Here's where to donate:

Once you've gathered your items, drop them off at one of the following locations:

  • The Salvation Army Family Services Office

  • Any Billion Auto location in Sioux Falls, Dell Rapids, or Worthing

  • Or, the Dakota News Now building

The Coats For All campaign runs through the entire month of October, so there's plenty of time to make your donation.

Let’s help make sure no one has to face another brutal South Dakota winter without the warmth they deserve.

The team behind the campaign says best: “Staying warm shouldn’t be a luxury, it should be for all.”
