Yes, the big "super" game is coming up and for a lot of people, me included, it's not who wins or loses, it's the food in the kitchen or on the party table!

A recent in-house survey at CBS Sports revealed their Top 10 Favorite Snacks for the "big game".

  1. Wings
  2. Pizza
  3. Chips and Dips
  4. Nachos
  5. Grilled meat (steaks, chops, kebabs, etc)
  6. Brownies
  7. Pigs-in-a-Blanket
  8. Buffalo Chicken Dip
  9. Baked Ziti
  10. Sugar sausages (kielbasa with light beer & brown sugar in a crockpot)

However, a Google survey indicated that here in South Dakota we have a more sophisticated game-time palate. The most googled football-watching snack was a hot dish.

That's right, a casserole, and not just any casserole, but a creamy chicken casserole. Herein lies the problem. Which creamy chicken casserole?

Are we talking about the creamy Chicken Cordon Bleu casserole, or maybe the Creamy Country chicken casserole, or what about Chicken Divan, or even Chicken Tater Tot Hotdish?

It was never specified in the Food Network survey, exactly which Creamy Chicken Casserole, South Dakotans fell in love with. But in any case, it proves that South Dakotans have a desire for something delicious, something warm and homemade, something more complicated than a takeout order of wings.

Well, at least some South Dakotans do.

Food Network Shows That Have Been To South Dakota

Living here in the upper midwest we are don't end up on national TV shows very often. That's probably a good thing in the long run.

But it is pretty cool when something from South Dakota is on TV. Three shows from the Food Network family of shows have showcased South Dakota restaurants.

You may remember when Guy Fieri and Diners Drive-ins and Dives was in Sioux Falls in June of 2020 to visit some of our city's unique establishments.

A few years ago the Travel Channel Show Food Paradise visited Deadwood.

If you remember the 'golden age' of Foot Network, back when Rachel Ray was the queen of the channel, she took her show $40 a Day to Rapid City in 2005.
