What better way to celebrate the "dog days of summer" than with a community party that is open to everyone!

That is exactly what Bluestone Federal Credit Union was thinking when they decided to throw this event at the Canaries Birdcage on Saturday, August 3 from 2 to 9 PM.

The Backyard Bash at the Birdcage is not only all about fun though, but fundraising too, so there will be a Cornhole Tournament run by Corn Palace Cornhole from 2 to 5 PM. Registration is from 1:30 to 2 PM.  There are two divisions $20 and $40 with a 50/50 prize.

The non-profits who are participating in this event include The Foster Network, The Sioux Falls Humane Society, the Big Paws Canine Foundation, and the Kitten League.

So just by bringing the whole family out for a day in the fresh air, and playing some cornhole, you'll be supporting organizations that do great work right here in our community.

There will also be food trucks from Breaking Burrito, Backyard Grill, and Ollies where you can purchase lunch, dinner, or snacks too.

There will be plenty of kids' activities from 2 to 7 PM including a number of bounce houses, speed pitch inflatable, kickball, cornhole, frisbees, footballs, face painting, and more! Plus the Canaries mascot Cagey will be there too!

There will also be a movie presented on the outfield from 7 to 9 PM, it's the classic family baseball film, The Sandlot. If you've seen it before you'll still love it and if not, it will be a fun revelation.

Seven Mind-Blowing Wonders' of South Dakota

I think most of us have at least heard of the "Seven Wonders of the Modern World." We might not be able to rattle them off as easily as McDonald's value menu items, but chances are you've heard of at least some of them, right?

There's the Great Wall of ChinaChichén Itzá, a Mayan City on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The ancient city of Petra, in Jordan. Machu Picchu in Peru. Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro. The Colosseum in Rome, and finally, the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.

Every state in the nation is known for having a series of natural wonders and signature landmarks. So, I thought I would come up with my own list of the "Seven Wonders of South Dakota."

The following is what I consider to be the signature landmarks, monuments, and natural wonders that are synonymous with the great state of South Dakota. I tried to give both sides of the state a little love while comprising this list.

You might have a few additions...
