Downtown Sioux Falls Intersection Getting A Makeover
What is this new project all about?
This new project is all in the name of pedestrian safety and an attempt to slow down traffic at 11th and Phillips in Sioux Falls.
Pigeon 605 is reporting that the Downtown Sioux Falls Resident Association received a city grant of $16,000 for this colorful project. Now there is a call going out to artists who would like to have their work featured.

The white crosswalk lines will still be maintained to keep up with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) related accessibility regulations. The art project will be painted outside of the lines.
What other downtown intersection might get an artistic makeover?
This whole idea began with the hope of doing the same thing for the intersection at 12th & Main in front of the Washington Pavilion, but the 11th and Phillips project will happen first.
The ultimate goal of this project is to get the funding to do this for one Downtown Sioux Falls intersection a year indefinitely.

When can artists apply for their artwork to be used?
Right now, through August 8, local artists can apply with their ideas for the intersection and will be selected by August 21, with painting slated to begin in October.
Artists are asked to consider these themes for their project ideas:
- Sioux Falls community, culture, or history.
- Joy, movement, and belonging.
- Nature or prairie themes.
- Bold, playful, and inclusive visuals.
