Devastating Tornado Strikes South Dakota, Local Woman Needs Our Help
Tornado Hits Near Bonesteel, SD — Community Rallies to Help
South Dakota weather can turn wild in a hurry—and Monday night was one of those nights. Tornadoes tore through parts of the state, and one of the hardest-hit areas was just north of Bonesteel, South Dakota on the road heading to Whetstone Bay.
Over the years of working here at Kickin' Country I've been in touch with people with Doug Koenig from Fairfax. Koenig shared a video with us showing the damage. It's heartbreaking. A recently widowed woman lost nearly everything—her home, buildings, trees—gone. Complete devastation.
Folks who live around here know how quickly life can change. And they also know how to come together when someone needs a hand a friend an neighbor Sherri Schmitz- Kollars. That’s just what we do in South Dakota.
Right now, there’s a GoFundMe set up to help Kollars get back on her feet. If you’ve got the means to pitch in, even a little, it would mean the world. And if you can’t donate, sharing the link with your friends and family helps more than you might think.
Check out the video from Koenig. It's bizarre to see the vegetation sucked off the face of the earth like a giant vacuum went over it. Cars, parked perfectly in a garage that's obliterated and more. If you’ve ever driven that road to Whetstone Bay or spent time in the Bonesteel area, this one will hit close to home. Let’s show her what the Kickin’ Country community can do when we step up together.
If you can, get your wallet out and help! And thanks ahead of time for sharing this story with your Facebook friends.
