Is New Dangerous Yellowjacket In South Dakota, Iowa, & Minnesota?

A unique species of yellowjacket from Central America has just been spotted in the New England area and is making its way across the country. It's known as the Vespula squamosa (Southern Yellowjacket). They have a "distinctive black and yellow patterning and orange queen." What makes this species of yellowjacket so violent and aggressive? Yellowjackets are very aggressive and sting or bite when they are disturbed or even when they feel any threat. They attack you when you are in their vicinity even if you do not disturb them.

They get irritated and aggressive when hungry, just like people!
How bad is a southern yellowjacket's sting? Some describe it as "excruciating agony." The pain of the sting can last for a few hours. Some people could die from this powerful sting.
