There's no worse crime than this...a South Dakota preschool teacher has been charged and is accused of raping a three-year-old. I have no words.

48-year-old Sarah Hazledine of Spearfish "allegedly raped" a three-year-old in August of 2024. She was working as a teacher at a daycare facility in the West River area of South Dakota at the time of the alleged incident.

According to our news partners at Dakota News Now, Sarah Hazledine is charged with "first-degree rape of a minor under the age of 13 and sexual contact with a minor under the age of 16." These charges and allegations involve the same victim. Surprisingly, a friend of Sarah Hazledine is speaking up against these charges. She doesn't believe that Sarah would harm a child.

A woman who claims she has been friends with Hazledine for decades said the allegations are false. She said dozens of people have offered to be a character witness for Hazledine

Sarah Hazledine's first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, April 28th. This is a developing story at Dakota News Now. Stay up to date on the latest details with our news partners and its sister station in Rapid City, KOTA.

There is little to add or say about this horrific crime. It's sickening. Parents are supposed to trust teachers and caregivers with their loved ones. This is just unacceptable. I hope the individuals involved are getting the help they need during this difficult time.

Cities on the east and west side of the Missouri River have made the latest list of South Dakota's Most Dangerous Cities for 2021.

Roadsnacks recently released its most 'Dangerous Cities' list and here in The Mount Rushmore state there are a few surprises, especially at the top. To determine the most dangerous cities in the state, Roadsnacks looked at the FBI's report on the latest violent crime, along with property crime statistics.

And surprisingly, the town with the most murders per capita in the state has less than 3,000 residents. Take a look at the list below.
