Stormy Weather May Hit Missouri This Independence Day
So you're saying there's a chance? That's accurate when talking about the possibility of thunderstorms over many parts of Missouri during 4th of July celebrations according to meteorologists.
Let's start with some good news about weather in Missouri for the 4th of July
According to NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, it does NOT look like Friday, July 4 will have much of a tornado risk. It will also likely not be quite as hot as it's been for the past week, but most of Missouri will still see highs in the upper 80's.
Now, for the bad news about weather in Missouri for the 4th of July
The Storm Prediction Center now has the vast majority of Missouri under a slight risk for thunderstorm development Friday by fireworks time.
There is one part of the meteorologists discussion that has me concerned. They warn "if stronger mid-level flow can overspread the warm sector during the afternoon/evening, a more concentrated severe weather threat is possible". They go on to say that they are considering escalating the advisory area as we get closer to Friday, but that will depend on how they see this scenario lining up based on energy and moisture in the atmosphere among other things.
The takeaway is this. Make sure you are aware of potential incoming storms before you head out to observe fireworks on the 4th of July in Missouri. Let's hope the only explosions in the sky on Friday are that of the fireworks and not the thunderstorm variety.
