Lawsuit Causes Missouri Dog-Friendly Coffee Shop to Close Down
When you dance too close to the fire, you sometimes get burned. That's what happened to a dog-friendly coffee shop in Missouri who's name and logo was a little too close to one of the best known gas stations in America.
Have you ever been to Barc-ee's in Marshfield, Missouri? Many describe it as one of the few dog-friendly coffee shops, but it appears they're now shutting down.
Why is Barc-ee's in Marshfield, Missouri closing?
According to Yahoo News, they were sued by Buc-ee's for having a presentation and name that too closely resembled theirs. Barc-ee's reportedly admitted that their brand was a playful nod to Buc-ee's, but lawyers claimed it insinuated a partnership and created what they called unfair competition.
This does not appear to be the end for the creators of Barc-ee's though. They shared that a new brand called The Bean and Bubble Babes will be active in the next 90 days or so. Based on the comments on the closing announcement on their Facebook page, it appears that many want more pet and kid-friendly activities in and around Marshfield.
This isn't the first lawyer rodeo for Buc-ee's as they have had to bring lawsuits against numerous copycat brands. It's not easy being the big dog in the gas station/convenience store business I guess.
