Holy Nostalgia! Diet Coke Lime is Coming Back – Retro Packaging Included (Pics)
Hold onto your britches — nostalgia is knocking at your door: Diet Coke Lime is returning to store shelves nationwide Oct. 6.
Foodie Markie Devo shared on Instagram the exact retro packaging the soft drink will feature—and honestly, it’s making me want to watch Back to the Future Part II while sipping one of these bad boys.
The post says we should all be ready to have our socks knocked off Oct. 6, when Diet Coke Lime returns in 20-ounce bottles and standard Diet Coke cans.
While there’s a rumor about a two-liter version, that hasn’t been confirmed yet.
What we can confirm is that Diet Coke Lime will be available nationwide — so no need to book a flight or fire up a time machine to get your hands on one.
How Are Fans Reacting to the Diet Coke Lime News?
Fans are flooding the comments with excitement: “YESSSSSSSSSS! This was a favorite of mine years ago, and I was so sad when it was discontinued.”
Another added, “This is SOOO exciting. My all-time fave!”
Of course, not everyone is happy. Some commenters are upset it’s not returning as a Coke Zero or regular Coke flavor — but hey, beggars can’t be choosers, right?

According to Sporked, the flavor first launched in 2004 and was sold until 2018, when it was replaced by Diet Coke Ginger Lime (which, in this writer’s humble opinion, was a downgrade).
It looks like this Diet Coke Lime, set to hit shelves in less than a month, might disappear just as quickly — so if you want to snag one, be ready for some Black Friday–style action at the grocery store just in case.
When Was Diet Coke Invented?
Although Diet Coke was invented in 1980, it didn't hit American store shelves until 1982, and the rest is history.
What Sweetener is Used in Diet Coke?
Diet Coke is primarily sweetened with the artificial sweetener aspartame.
