Valleyfair Announces Shocking Soak City Ride Closures

Valleyfair is now part of the Six Flags family of theme parks across the country, and with their 50th anniversary coming up, fans are expecting major announcements for the celebration.

Many fans of Minnesota's largest theme park have been eagerly waiting for a new roller coaster, only to be met with smaller additions like flat rides and minor park updates over the past several years.

Convinced that 2026 would finally bring a new thrill ride, fans were disappointed again when Valleyfair teased a different kind of addition.

Valleyfair Teases Big Waterpark Update for 2026

In a recent social media post, Valleyfair said, “New waterpark adventures are coming in 2026,” using the hashtag #SomethingSuperior26. They added that construction would begin soon, which means some current attractions will be closing permanently after August 10.

The rides slated for retirement include Hurricane Falls, Panic Falls Body & Speed Slides, Ripple Rapids, and Splash Station. The rest of the Soak City attractions will remain open through Labor Day.

Rumors Point to New Name and Rides for Waterpark

Theme park rumor site ScreamScape reports that Six Flags has trademarked the name "Superior Shores Waterpark", aligning with the teaser hashtag. There’s also speculation that some slides from the soon-to-close Six Flags America could be relocated to Valleyfair, including the RipQurl Blaster, which just debuted in 2024.

Fans React: “Give Us a Coaster!”

Fan reactions were mixed, with many disappointed by the lack of a new roller coaster announcement. Comments like “BOOO!!! Give us a new rollercoaster!” and “If you guys do a small waterpark addition with no new roller coaster, it will be the biggest disappointment. 50th anniversary deserves a roller coaster,” flooded the park’s social media.

To be fair, the waterpark is due for some love, and we still don’t know the full extent of what’s coming. Just because this is the first announcement doesn’t mean it’s the only one. With Valleyfair turning 50, it’s possible more surprises are on the way.
