Former Sioux Falls ‘Rock and Roll Academy’ Gets Holy Reboot

The former 'Rock and Roll Academy' building in central Sioux Falls will be used to answer a higher calling.

Tre Ministries, a Sioux Falls-based Christian youth ministry, will move into the empty space on West 11th Street.

KSFY TV is reporting that Sandy Berven, the founder of the ministry, said the building's mix of small and large rooms make it a perfect fit for the organization, which has been without a permanent location since moving from its old building at 33rd Street and Minnesota Avenue.

Berven said a donor has stepped up to match donations, up to $50,000 to support the move.  Tre Ministries will hold a donation drive on December 3 to raise enough money by year's end.

KSFY reports that Tre Ministries serves youth groups at churches around the region.  Berven, who serves as the youth director at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, said the new facility will also help the ministry serve adults.

The Academy's founder, businessman Chuck Brennan, moved his Dollar Loan Center operations out of South Dakota after the state passed a measure limiting short-term loans.  The Academy has been shuttered since December 2016, shortly after the measure passed.
