Vanessa Carlton had some choice words for Chris Brown after he shared her song on International Women's Day, but the singer is, apparently, not taking her criticism lying down.

"I posted a song that was and still is a great song and the artist felt she was doing her duty as a WOMAN to continue to spread this kind of hatred today," he wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. "I won’t keep it up long. I just hope she knows she is loved and her song is great."

After deleting his response, Brown reposted the track — Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" — but this time from the famous White Chicks scene in which Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) sings along to the 2002 hit. "I LOVE THIS SONG," he captioned the video, which is still up on his page.

The cause célèbre all began because Brown shared a clip of "A Thousand Miles" via Instagram on Thursday (March 8), writing, "MOOD. THIS SONG LIT FOREVER."

Carlton, however, didn't take kindly to the shoutout from Brown, who was charged with felony assault after a physical altercation with then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

"Today Chris Brown posted my video," she wrote in an Instagram post, which has also been deleted, according to TMZ. "I am now being repeatedly tagged to his account. Being that today is International Women's Day I feel compelled to draw a line. I support survivors, not perpetrators of domestic violence. I do not want to be associated with an artist that has assaulted women on a day like today. Thank you. #internationalwomensday."

Carlton has since made her account private to avoid the ire of Brown's fans.
