The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Blizzard Watch for much of the area beginning late Monday into Tuesday night.

A strong winter storm will impact the central United States as early Tuesday morning, and bring intense snow and winds into Wednesday.  Heavy snow and blizzard conditions may be possible.

Snow will quickly develop south of Interstate 90 before daybreak Tuesday, as low pressure spins across the Central Plains. Significant snowfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches will be possible from eastern Nebraska into parts of central and northern Iowa. As this storm system strengthens, strong northeast winds between 20 and 30 mph will gust to as high as 40 mph at times. These winds are expected to create significant blowing snow and white out conditions.  - National Weather Service
