We used to say that the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum of Natural History was an undiscovered treasure in our area. But that simply can't be said anymore!

Drive past the zoo (if you can't stop in right away, that is) any Saturday and Sunday and you'll see what I mean. Thousands of people from all over the tri-state area, and beyond, have discovered the over one thousand animals which call the Great Plains Zoo their home. And they've been enchanted by what they've found.

Whether it is the busy, frenetic energy of the Hy-Vee Face-to-Face Farm, the breezy, calm of the African Savannah area, the excitement of Koala Wilds or the majesty of the Asian Cats exhibit, there is something to fascinate children and adults alike.

This Saturday (June 17) is the perfect day to visit the zoo with your children because it is Zippity Zoo Day! This annual summer kid's carnival event has so many activities, you won't know where to start! And Zippity Zoo Day is free with paid zoo admission or membership.

All of the activities happen from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. You'll find free face painting, carnival games, and inflatables throughout the zoo. DJ Sieff will be playing great music all day. There will be zookeeper chats every hour and the "Creature Features" will allow kids to get close to several cool zoo residents.

Whatever you do, don't forget your phone or camera, because you're going to want pictures to remember all the fun you and your kids had!
