You’ve Graduated College and Don’t Have a Full-Time Job. Now What?
Most colleges around the area had commencement ceremonies this past weekend. Now those fresh college students who have graduated are looking to enter their job field if they don’t have a spot lined up.
If there is any form of advice I can give back to you, it’s don’t give up.
If you have an idea of a job that you’ve always wanted to do, the road to get into that field might be very difficult. It might take a part-time job or internship with a company in that field, and another part-time job or two just to live, but experience gained and persistence will eventually get you there.
Besides, you’ve spent thousands of dollars to get yourself prepared for the job you want to obtain. Might as well keep pushing to get there.
I know all too well. It took quite a few months, and a few different companies, before I was able to land a permanent spot. I was frustrated. It was tiring. It made me question whether or not I was in the field that I belonged in.
And that’s okay.
Learning about yourself while facing adversity is not a bad thing. If life continued to just be one smooth path, there wouldn’t be accomplishments or disappointment. It would just be boring.
I’ve seen it far too many times in the past two years where people I’ve attended college with have given in and given up. They are working jobs that pay the bills, but hate the idea of going to work everyday. You’ll be working for 40+ years or so. You might as well enjoy it.
Just remember that while the road might get bumpy, the end destination will be completely worth it if you don’t give up on your dream. Keep pushing forward, and you will be rewarded.
