Some entrepreneurs in the Los Angeles area are hoping diners across America will someday be getting their daily allowance of protein from edible crickets rather than meat. For that to happen though, the three 25 year olds will have to convince a whole lot of people to add insects to their diet.

Maximillian Cunha is one of the three men responsible for building the country's first urban edible cricket farm. They call their crickets "Micro Livestock." The farm is located in a building in an industrial park area of Los Angeles.

"I really do think America's ready for this."

The three men claim eating crickets instead of beef for protein will actually help conserve water. They point out it takes approximately 1,700 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. However, to produce a pound of crickets they say it only takes one gallon of water.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if their idea takes off and spreads across the country. My money though is on "it'll NEVER happen." I'll get my protein from a juicy ribeye thank you very much!
