When the Pizza Hut app arrived on the Xbox 360, we scratched our heads. "Who would use an app to order pizza?" we asked. Apparently everyone, as thanks to the app, Pizza Hut was... wait for it... rolling in dough.

While we won't apologize for that joke, we will apologize for daring to doubt the majestic power of Pizza Hut. "It's been a source of unbelievable growth for us," Doug Terfehr, director of public relations for Pizza Hut, told Polygon at CES. "Just the explosion of people who wanted to download it, experiment with it, play with it with Kinect. As soon as we did one, everyone was contacting us to do the next [one]."

In just four months, the Pizza Hut app generated $1 million in orders from the Xbox 360 alone. That has the company and other console makers looking into options on whether or not that success can be had elsewhere. Though Terfehr wouldn't elaborate on potential PlayStation or Nintendo versions of the app. "When you talk about a sweet spot for the pizza category it's definitely gamers and gaming," Terfehr said. "We're not done in that space."

That an average of $250,000 worth of pizza was ordered every month through the Xbox is surprising. There are so many ways to order already, an additional option seemed like overkill. Who knew the best way to order pizza was right before you were about to fire up another match of Call of Duty: Ghosts or Poker Night 2 for the evening? Whether or not other fast food delivery services follow suit remains to be seen, but after the success Pizza Hut has had, it's only a matter of time until its competitors follow suit. What won't the Xbox 360 be able to do?
